This Friday is Park(ing) Day, an annual, worldwide event that invites citizens everywhere to transform metered parking spots into temporary parks for the public good.
For the past two years, I’ve organized a Park(ing) Day event in Phoenix. This year, my good friend Stacey Champion is taking over the reigns there, and it promises to be bigger and better than ever!
Here in Vancouver, I’ll be joining a small but dedicated group led by members of the Vancouver Public Space Network. Here are the details. I hope you can stop by for a bit!
My Park Is _____.
On Friday, Sept 16 join the VPSN as we participate in PARK(ing) Day! This year, the Vancouver Public Space Network’s celebration of PARK(ing) Day revolves around the theme of “My Park Is _____.”
- What does your local park mean to you?
- What do you love about it?
- What do you hate about it?
For some of us, our park is our “rec room” — a place to read a book, play games, and hang out with friends. With this concept in mind, VPSN will be setting up our own little street-side rec room in front of Whole Foods on the corner of West 8th Avenue and Cambie Street (map) from 10am to 5pm to celebrate PARK(ing) Day. So come down, kick back, play a board game or two, and tell us what your park means to you.
Want to help out? We need you! We need help setting up, taking down, and moving our rec room around. For more information or if you have any ideas about how we can make this PARK(ing) Day the best ever, please email Simon at simon[at]vancouverpublicspace[dot]ca
