The Digital Dude Hangout – Dudes, Doctors, and… Beer!

March 31st, 2014

As I posted a few weeks ago, I’ve been involved in  A GP for Me Vancouver a local campaign to allow more citizens to have a family doctor.

Throughout the last six weeks of the campaign, men aged 18-40 (aka guys like me) have been one of the most challenging demographics for us to engage. While we are the most likely group to engage in high risk behaviours (high impact sports and fitness, alcohol and recreational drug use, sexual activity, poor nutritional choices, etc), we are the least likely to have a GP.  And so far, we’ve also been the least likely to take the A GP for Me Vancouver’s survey, by a margin of 4 to 1.

To address this issue (and to have a little fun at the same time), we’ve reached out to the amazing folks at Canada’s health technology accelerator Sanotron and the digital innovators at Invoke Media to host a “Digital Dude Hangout” on April 8. We’ll have 33 Acres Brewing Company beer, food, and $25 gift cards for any of the guys out there that want to join. The purpose is to have a discussion on men’s health and technological innovations that could improve our access to primary health care.

Guys, it’ll be painless. I promise…  and did I mention BEER!
