The Bright Lights Of New York City [Weekend Watch]

February 13th, 2011

Director Chateau Bezerra shot this hypnotic video for the Gorillaz song “On Melancholy Hill” using only neon lights found on the streets of New York City.  Chateau  describes the video as:

A walk down New York City streets late at night with only the store lights to keep you company.

It’s interesting to see how many signs we see every day that we barely notice, yet instantly recognize.

Lyrics

Up on melancholy hill
There’s a plastic tree
Are you here with me
Just looking out on the day
Of another dream

Well you can’t get what you want
But you can get me
So let’s set up and see
‘Cause you are my medicine
When you’re close to me
When you’re close to me

So call in the submarine
‘Round the world will go
Does anybody know
If we’re looking out on the day
Of another dream

If you can’t get what you want
Then you come with me

Up on melancholy hill
A manatee?
Just looking out on the day
When you’re close to me
When you’re close to me

When you’re close to me
